ABOUT ME
Who is Liam Deegan?
Liam was born in Dublin in 1963 (still good looking for an oul lad though) 😊 nd is married to Nuala since 1988. Liam is the proud dad to Jake, Sema, Holi and Dazy. Liam and his family have lived in the border region, having moved from Dublin in 2000.
Liam's career started off in the military in 1980 when he was just 17. Liam's ambition and dream as a child was to be an astronaut, however he nearly did attain that dream when in 1986 Liam flew with the US Air Force during an airshow display.
Liam left the military in 2000 and joined a civil aviation company and worked there for many years until he retired because of a sudden illness. Liam always harboured an ambition to become a writer or journalist and studied journalism at Michigan State University. Thus began a career path that changed not only his life but also that of many others.
What is it that makes Liam Deegan tick?
To answer that question, one must know that Liam considers himself a humanitarian first and foremost. Liam has a great sense of understanding of the social issues that affect a huge amount of people in Ireland in this day and age. One of the reasons that Liam decided to go into journalism is because of the corruption that has always pervaded not only politics but also society at large in terms of the legal and banking system. As a journalist, Liam has exposed the Denis O'Brien Siteserv deal in which O'Brien not only had his loans with Anglo Irish written off but also managed to buy companies that the taxpayer had "purchased" from various banks at an average of ten percent of the value previously paid by the state on behalf of the taxpayers.
Liam also exposed the Irish Water / Siteserv water meter deal in which Denis O'Brien's Siteserv won the water metering contract even though the company was not in existence at the time of tendering. The exposé has now led to a judge led inquiry that is still ongoing.
Liam has written articles for various publications including the Sunday Times, the New York Post and many other newspapers and magazines.
The links shown here are taken from various articles originally written by Liam and sold to various media outlets for editing by their own journalists.
